Service Project/Plan

Confirmation isn’t just about a day in your life…it’s about the day you make a commitment for the rest of your life.  In other words it’s about putting your faith in action.  It’s about making a decision to do what Jesus would do…to live as Jesus would live.  St. James reminds us that faith without works is empty.  It’s not enough to just say “I believe.”  We must live it.   We show our love for God in two ways: directly (through Mass, prayer, confession…) and through love of neighbor (Jesus said, whatever you do to the least of my brother’s and sisters you do to Me.)  This part of your program and formation for your future as a confirmed Catholic will focus on loving your neighbor.  Over the next one/two years, you are being asked to allow God to stretch your heart…to love your neighbor as Jesus loves us.   The spiritual and corporal works of mercy give us direction on how to love our neighbor.  Please come up with an outreach project that incorporates both a spiritual and corporal work of mercy.  A list of ideas and suggestions is included if you wish to use it.   Here is how this works:

  1. Please fill out the contact form below with a description of your project.  As a 7th grader, 8th grader, or high school student, if you are already involved in a service project please describe that as well.  You do not have to start a new project if that is the case.
  2. You will receive a reply to your email approving your project with comments or suggestions as needed.
  3. The project you choose must be something ongoing.  For example, volunteering as an altar server, visiting someone in a nursing home frequently, etc.  Volunteering to do yard work on a regular basis for people in you neighborhood who might not be able to do this for themselves would also be fine.  There are many possibilities!
  4. Please fill-out the project completion form listed below when you have completed your service project.
  5. Please submit a photo or video that captures/describes your project.  These photos/videos may be used as part of a presentation at the end of the year.  You will be given instructions on how to send your photos/videos electronically.
  6. You may work in groups depending on your project.  Please indicate the names of the people working with you.  Each person must submit a service plan separately even though you are working together.
  7. Service plans must be submitted and approved before Christmas of this year.
  8. The project must be completed at least one month prior to Confirmation.
